BCIT Art Welcomes Students and Parents for 2021 School Year

Dear BCIT Families and Students,

As we prepare for the start of another school year, I wanted to share with you our first edition of the BCIT Art Newsletter.  I hope that you will take some time to review it, as it contains some important information about the upcoming semester and year.  I’m looking forward to a great year with my new students!

My name is Niki Jacob and I will be your Art Teacher for this first Semester. As a Graphic/Web Designer by trade, I created a website that should help you remotely and in-class find everything there is to know about the class, the course units, and all supplemental items needed to finish the semester on a high note. The website is listed https://bcit.thevirtualartinstructor.com.

As you scroll down the front page you will lot of information pertaining to the school day. The site is public so parents can keep up with their child’s assignments. Please watch the welcome video and move down the front page. Please read your syllabus so you are familiar with all codes of conduct and class information before you arrive. when complete sign a student policy agreement stating that you have read the policy and will adhere to its guidelines. When you do so you will have earned your first 100.

Going down further you will see links to  You will see your class Google calendar -when there are assignments due you can see what is due along with the due date. You will then see the links to Google classroom, please join the room, links to Google Meet, and to the Daily attendance form fo my class, you MUST sign in every day before the start of class.

The website is merely a hub of information, but everything will be conducted in Google Classroom. This is where you will be turning in assignments and where I will grade as well. so students can see what they are missing. If a parent wishes to receive a summary of the Google Classroom activity you can do so by sending me an email so I can send over the invite to you. The email summary will have: (example)

  • Missing work—Work not turned in when the summary was sent.
  • Upcoming work—Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails).
  • Class activity

I am ready for the 2020-2021 school year and whatever it has in store for us! These trying times have changed everything in the world around us, but especially in the realm of education and school. I want to salute our parents for trusting us and for all they do to support our kids.

I am most excited to be able to welcome our students back to school, whether it be via the hybrid learning model or via a full remote learning pathway!

As a reminder for all students and parents, ALL students will begin the year on a B-day starting September 8th. The C day for Wednesday, A day for Thursday, and bac to B for Friday.

All students are required to bring in or have their laptops, Chromebooks with them every day. I will expect you to be logged into the Google Meet and that you have already signed the attendance sheet and are ready to work. The first couple of days will be a little different. But come our first unit you will begin to see in Google classroom and on the projector screen in class a Daily Journal prompt. It is a drawing prompt – which should take no more than 5-10 minutes to do. This will allow me to take attendance and handle any immediate problems. after that, we will begin class. So t redirect: Be on time for class, sign the daily attendance sheet, start your daily journal and then wait for further instruction.
